Our 2015 theme is contexts: the harp as bridge between Irish worlds and traditions…
The gala concert on Saturday 29th in the beautiful acoustic of St Peter’s Church will feature renowned Bandon natives the Casey/ Ní Chathasaigh sisters as they pre-launch their new CD Sibling Revelry, (which includes their specially-composed Bandonbridge Suite - a musical representation of the history of the town, premièred at the 2014 festival) and internationally acclaimed harper Kathleen Loughnane, who is famed for her playing of the gorgeous music of the 17th and 18th century Irish harpers.
The Casey Sisters' new CD is slated for a formal release on October 19, but pre-release copies will be exclusively available at the concert! The front cover image is on the right...
Eminent Irish harp expert and advocate Aibhlín McCrann will open the festival with her illustrated lecture exploring the fascinating history of the Irish harp and its music in the Town Hall on Friday 28th at 8pm.
In addition, Brenda Malloy will perform on her wonderful collection of Irish, Renaissance and Baroque harps at the lunchtime concert in the Methodist Church on Saturday 29th from 12:00 - 2pm.
We've expanded our workshop offering again this year. The harp tutors will be Máire Ní Chathasaigh, Kathleen Loughnane and Damhnait Nic Suibhne, the fiddle tutor will be Nollaig Casey and the traditional singing tutor will be Mairéad Ní Chathasaigh. See here for full details.
